We know it can be confusing when deciding what first aid course is right for you or your organization - so here are some answers to commonly-asked questions. And, as always, please get in touch if you would like more information!
Getting trained equips you with the knowledge and skills to respond confidently in emergencies, potentially saving lives. You will be ready to act swiftly at home, at work or elsewhere to handle cardiac arrests, choking, and other injuries, providing essential care before 911 arrives. Being first-aid trained can enhance job prospects. Many industries are OSHA-mandated to provide first-aid training. Businesses that offer first aid training to their staff see higher employee morale and retention - and can benefit from lower insurance premiums.
If you work in a healthcare setting or similar you may be required to obtain a BLS certificate, focusing on teamwork in clinical and public safety-professional settings.
Well, your course will be very thorough but engaging. There will be time to ask questions and a conversational atmosphere will be encouraged. We'll go at your pace and make sure nobody is left behind. We're super flexible and come to your location. The manikins are modern and sanitized prior to each class. Some even say the classes are relaxed and enjoyable and we are easy to work with but we don't believe them....
Each skill will be clearly presented and demonstrated then each class participant will have the opportunity to ask questions before practicing new skills on a modern mannequin with helpful feedback from the experienced instructor. At the end of the class we'll put all the new skills together and practice first aid scenarios. The classes are thorough and enjoyable.
While there are many different classes available, the 'baseline' First aid - CPR - AED course teaches how to recognize and safely handle the following (adults and children scenarios):
BLS courses focus on team dynamics, emergency protocols and multi-rescuer team CPR.
Please get in touch for more details, and to find a course that is right for you.
Many of our classes are offered as a full in-person course or as a 'blended class'. A blended class has an online component (completed at home) consisting of videos and presentations which introduce the main concepts, then the in-person segment consists of hands-on skills practice with instructor-led feedback.
CPR and AED techniques differ somewhat from adults to children to babies so this course will teach you how to act confidently regardless of the age of the patient. Both infant and adult mannequins are used to practice. Even if you are learning CPR for work purposes we highly recommend also gaining the skills required to handle emergencies involving children because you never know....
Absolutely. These courses are slightly shorter than the standard adult and pediatric courses. Please contact us if you are interested.
No! While there's definitely a lot to learn to do it right we will expertly guide you through the process in an accessible and enjoyable way. People are often surprised how much we have covered by the end of the class, by methodically and patiently reviewing and practicing the skills needed to save a life.
The class is held in your home, place of business or your organization's space. No need to travel to a classroom. River Prepared First Aid will bring all the equipment needed to gain the required skills. What's more, we will tailor the classes to your specific group or business and location.
Not at all. It's our job to bring almost all the equipment. You would just need to provide a safe, clean space in which we can lay out some mannequins and practice the skills. Tables and chairs would be great but we can even cover that if necessary.
This class (taught by a trained and licensed instructor) provides - upon successful completion - a certificate which is valid for two years. This certificate meets almost all OSHA requirements. We also offer non-certified classes for those simply looking to gain the skills required in an emergency without needing a certificate.
It's a common question and the answer is.... It depends.
American Red Cross (ARC) CPR courses and American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver courses: These are aimed at lay responders and those requiring a basic certification for work or other purposes. They are both very widely accepted and result in a certificate that is usually OSHA-accepted. They are both based on the same science and are equally thorough, engaging courses which could save a life. If you are a layperson or you are getting your workplace team trained, it's entirely your choice so pick the one which works best with your schedule! We offer both so please feel free to get in touch with any questions.
American Red Cross and American Heart Association BLS courses: If you are a part of a medical or public safety team and need BLS training then we recommend checking with your employer! Some organizations require the AHA BLS specifically, while others will accept either AHA or ARC interchangeably since they are based on the same science. Again, we offer both courses so please let us know if we can get you or your team trained up!
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation - the act of manually compressing the chest of someone who is suffering a cardiac arrest. It keeps oxygenated blood moving through the body - including to the brain - until advanced help arrives. It doubles or even triples the chances of survival. Under instructor guidance you will practice on one of our modern mannequins which provides instant feedback as you perform compressions so you know you are doing it right.
Automated External Defibrillator - a portable device which can deliver an electric shock, via pads placed on the chest, to victims in cardiac arrest. AEDs are available in many public locations such as malls, gyms, train stations and schools as well as an increasing number of workplaces. AEDs have saved many lives. Your training at River Prepared First Aid will equip you to use an AED with confidence
An American Red Cross certified course which either adds new skills (not covered in the 'standard' courses) or augments existing skills by going into more depth. These Skill Boosts can be added on to a First Aid - CPR - AED course for those who do not currently have a certificate. Highly recommended
Our standard class minimum is three people. But if you would like a private class please do get in touch and we'll do our best to accommodate.
It's possible to book a class for any day of the week, early or late!
Many of our videos are available in Spanish as well as English, and classes can be conducted in Spanish as well!
Yes, of course. Videos are available subtitled. We can change protocols to accommodate mobility issues and so on. Please advise us when booking a class if any accommodations might be needed, and let's discuss options. It is worth noting that given the physical nature of performing CPR, there is a point at which certification will be difficult - but we will do everything we can to make sure that everyone gets the most thorough training available on the market.
You will receive it same day in almost all cases and within twenty-four hours at a maximum. If it's urgent please let us know and we'll get it over to you lickety-split. Certificates will be emailed out and can be printed easily. Printed copies can be provided with prior arrangement.
We really do try to be nice so we will always aim to be as accommodating as possible. But of course we do have a few parameters to which we ask you to agree prior to booking....
We think these terms of service are fair and transparent but if you have any questions about them or if you would like help with them in any way please email us, give us a call or get in touch via the website form.
